National Health Center Facts

In 2015, health centers served as the health care home for more than 24 million people and are recognized as an invaluable part of the nation’s health delivery system.


  • In 2015, over 5.9 million uninsured patients received care at community healh centers (24.4%).
  • Over 11.8 million Medicaid patients received care at community healh centers (48.9%).
  • Over 3 million patients with private insurance received care at community healh centers (16.7%).
  • More than 23% of patients were best served in a language other than English.
  • CHCs are located in areas where care is needed but scarce, and improve access to care for millions of Americans regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.

In 2015, Community Health Centers also:

  • Served over 20 million patients with medical services.
  • Served 5.1 million patients with dental services.
  • Served more than 1.5 million patients with substance abuse and mental health services.
  • Served 501,647 patients with vision services.
